Yes. You can use the funds in your HSA to pay for medical services while traveling outside of the United States. IRS Publication 502 details what you can use your HSA funds to cover. IN short, if it is a qualified medical procedure or medication that would have been legal and eligible in the United States, you will be able to use your HSA funds to cover the costs of the procedure or medication while travelling.
Your HSA Bank may charge an additional fee when using your HSA card while abroad. Check with your HSA Bank for additional information about these fees, if applicable.
Any expense must be a qualifying medical expense in the United States – it must be legal in both the United States and the country you’re visiting to be covered. It’s also important to note that you cannot order prescription drugs from another country to bring into the United States. You can use the HSA funds for medications that you consume while outside the USA.
