Being launched into the world of adulthood can be a jolt, regardless of how much you prepare. Today, it’s even more complicated than ever.
Whether you’re still living with your parents until you get yourself established, maybe you’re looking forward to moving into a rental or buying your first house, or getting married. Life insurance might be the last thing on your mind to think about. But there are some things you need to know. Things I wish I knew when I was younger.
- Life insurance is there to protect those you love. The most a young adult tends to know about life insurance is that there are several life insurance companies out there trying to convince them how cheap it is – that they can get it for less than a cup of coffee every day. It’s actually true. In fact, a lot of young adults can get it for the same price as a few cups of coffee each month. But why would you want it? It’s not a pleasant thing to think about – the idea that we can die someday. But it’s an important thing to consider if you want to protect the people you love from financial disaster in the event something happens to you.
- If you don’t know a lot about or don’t understand insurance, you’ll want to speak to an agent. The Internet is a fantastic resource for shopping for a lot of things these days. Life insurance, however, is a financial product and while it can be simple to pick a plan off the Internet, learning about all your options through a licensed agent can ensure that you get the right amount for the right amount of time that fits into your budget. Many people still don’t know that an agent like myself will sit down and help you at no cost to you and without affecting the price of your policy.
- There is no time like the present. The obvious reality is that you’ll never be younger than you are now. And the younger and healthier you are are the two most important factors that will keep the price of your insurance policy low. If you don’t have an agent, contact me and I’ll be happy to get you started.
